On Bottcher's mysterious identity
نویسنده
چکیده
In his work on Wiener-Hopf determinants, A. Böttcher came across what he termed a “mysterious” identity that evaluates a certain sum of a rational function of a primitive root of unity in terms of the Barnes Gfunction, which was later generalized by Basor and Forrester. We give a direct proof of Böttcher’s identity and its many generalizations by using elements of the theory of symmetric functions.

Identity-Committable Signatures and Their Extension to Group-Oriented Ring Signatures
The identity of “Deep Throat”, a pseudonym of the information source in the Watergate scandal, remained mysterious for more than three decades. In 2005, an ex-FBI official claimed that he was the anonymous source. Nevertheless, some are still inconvinced. In this paper, we introduce a new notion of identity-committable signatures (ICS) to ensure the anonymity of “Deep Throat” inside a group. A ...

متن کاملDemystifying a Divisibility Property of the Kostant Partition Function
In this note we study a family of identities regarding divisibility properties of Kostant partition functions which first appeared in a paper of Baldoni and Vergne. To prove the identities, Baldoni and Vergne used techniques of residues and called the resulting divisibility properties “mysterious.” We prove these identities entirely combinatorially and provide a natural explanation of why the d...
متن کاملLimb development: Farewell to arms
Forelimbs and hindlimbs are, clearly, quite different, and it has long been appreciated that their differences are assigned early in development; the genetic basis of these differences has been more mysterious, however. Recent work has now shown that the homeobox gene Pitx1 imparts identity to the developing hindlimb bud.
متن کاملThe Wp – Bailey
Abstract. Our object is a thorough analysis of the WP-Bailey tree, a recent extension of classical Bailey chains. We begin by observing how the WP–Bailey tree naturally entails a finite number of classical q-hypergeometric transformation formulas. We then show how to move beyond this closed set of results and in the process we explicate heretofore mysterious identities of D. Bressoud. Next, we ...
